Consultant Neurologist and Epileptologist

Trained at Institute of Neurology Queen's Square, London. U.K.

Department of Neurology and Neurosciences:

The department of Neurology and Neurosciences offers comprehensive evaluation and treatments for patients with neurological disorders. Neurology deals with diseases related to brain, spinal cord, nerve roots, plexus, nerves, myoneural junction and muscles.

Outpatient consultation

First a detailed medical history and a through clinical examination will be undertaken. Necessary investigation will be advised.

Electrophysiology lab

The Neurology Department has a well equipped electrophysiology lab where tests are conducted by an experienced electrophysiology technician. The Neuropsychological laboratory assessing spinal cord, peripheral nerves and the muscles has top-of-line electrophysiological equipments for diagnosis.

Additionally, the laboratory helps in assessing patients with disc disease involving the neck as well as the lower back. These assessments pinpoint the exact location of the disease. Evoked potential studies assess once the electrophysiology investigations are conducted and accurate diagnosis obtained, proper treatment will start. The modalities of electrophysiological investigations done here are:

  • Nerve conduction study of all four limbs
  • Brachial plexus study
  • Carpal tunnel study
  • Facial nerve study
  • Blink reflex study
  • H-reflex study
  • Dermatomal SEP
  • Sympathetic skin response
  • Electromyography
  • Repetitive nerve stimulation
  • Autonomic function tests
  • Sleep study including polysomnography etc.

Treatments offered

Comprehensive stroke care is given by a competent team of Neurologist, Neurosurgeon, Interventional Radiologist and Cardiovascular Surgeon. When the stroke patient arrives, emergency imaging like CT brain or MRI diffusion study or CT angiography is done and treatment is started immediately.

Convulsions are the most common complaint in neurology requiring emergency treatment. The patient is given drugs to control seizures and resuscitated if they are in shock. Ventilators therapy will be started immediately. Emergency CT scanning and EEG are done to detect the cause for convulsions.

Causes for coma vary from low blood sugar to complicated hemorrhages in the brain. It includes renal failures, liver failure, and severe asthma, severe pneumonia, hypernatremia, severe hypothyroidism, meningitis, encephalitis, convulsion, brain tumor, head injury, hydrocephalus and strokes. A complete range of investigations and expert services are available to manage coma patients.

Certain neurological disorders like strokes, brain tumour, head injury, transverse myelitis, spinal cord injury, meningoencephalitis etc. may produce disability and complete dependence in a patient. These patients are rehabilitated through appropriate physiotherapy, speech therapy or occupational therapy.
